The figures from October 2020 show that 62 per cent of all teachers in compulsory school in Sörmland had a teacher's credentials and qualifications in at least one subject.

Across the country, teacher eligibility was 70.9 percent, which is a small increase compared to the previous academic year.

- It's alarming.

A low proportion of qualified teachers means lower quality teaching.

The students do not receive the education they are entitled to, which threatens Sweden's future as a nation of knowledge, writes the Teachers' Association's chairman Johanna Jaara Åstrand in a press release.

Trosa and Gnesta are the municipalities in Sörmland that have the most qualified teachers - 68 percent.

Flen has the lowest share of 53 percent.
