Worpswede (dpa / lni) - Paula Modersohn-Becker (1876-1907) received little recognition in artistic circles during her lifetime - today she is considered one of the most important German painters of all.

The Osterholz district has been awarding an art prize named after her since 2010, also to set a monument to Modersohn-Becker.

The award is given every two years, but the main prize winner's freestyle had to be postponed due to the corona pandemic.

Today (12 noon) it will be announced who will receive the award this time.

The winners for the special prize and side prize have been known since November 2020 - Cihan Cakmak will receive the young talent prize on Wednesday, Marie S. Ueltzen the special prize.

Worpswede is one of the few German artist colonies that survived the two world wars and other crises.

More than a hundred artisans and artists live there today.

Both exhibitions at the Art Prize in the Barkenhoff and in the Great Art Show can be viewed by prior arrangement.
