Frankfurt / Main (AP) - Makkabi Germany, the umbrella organization of the Jewish gymnastics and sports clubs, has criticized the Nazi comparison by DFB President Fritz Keller.

One was "dismayed" by the comparison made by Keller, it said in a statement.

"As a German-Jewish sports association, we expressly oppose any disproportionate comparisons with the Shoah."

One knows "such linguistic failures and insensitive statements, be it from regular tables or from the edge of the field".

Makkabi Germany emphasized that such statements are “immediately problematized and the content contradicted”.

Keller apologized not only to Vice President Rainer Koch, but also to Makkabi Germany.

According to media reports, the DFB president compared Koch with Nazi judge Roland Freisler.

The top official admitted his "serious mistake", but ruled out a resignation on Tuesday despite the great horror about it.
