Since the Easter break, the Kronoberg region has seen an increased spread of covid-19 between the ages of 15-19.

Now introduces two high schools in Växjö distance education for grades 8 and 9, after both teachers and children have become ill.

The schools affected are Teleborgs Centrumskola and Pär Lagerkvistskolan in Växjö, which Smålandsposten was the first to report.

Why not more classes?

- Because we see that the spread of infection is concentrated around these classes.

We do not see that we need more to prevent the spread of infection and we do not introduce distance education where it is not necessary, says Pernilla Tornéus, chair of the education committee, to SVT.

The decision, which applies until next Friday, was made following a recommendation from the region's infection control doctors, after seeing that more and more children and teachers have become ill at these schools.

- But these are still fairly low numbers.

In the last two weeks, there have been between 20-30 cases at each of these schools.

High school closes

At the international school in Älmhult, two students and two teachers have become ill with covid, and there the school has decided to close the entire high school.

- Everyone who has been in contact with these people will now be tested, says principal Maria Haglund, to Smålandsposten.

The middle school Grönkullaskolan in Alvesta has also decided on distance education, this applies to grades five and six, the municipality writes on its website.

The reason is a high staff shortage in combination with increased infection.
