Today (28th), the "2020 Beijing Cancer Registration Annual Report" published by Beijing Cancer Research Office was officially released.

This is the first time that Beijing has publicly released monitoring data on malignant tumors of Beijing residents in the form of an annual report, which provides in-depth analysis of the characteristics of cancer incidence and death among residents.

This "Annual Report" summarizes the incidence and death of the city as a whole and 23 common malignant tumors in Beijing in 2017.

The "Annual Report" data comes from the 2017 tumor registration data submitted by 168 secondary and above medical institutions in the city, the tumor patient death database provided by the Beijing Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and the outpatient data matching and community through the Beijing Municipal Health Commission Information Center. Active follow-up of supplementary death outcomes and population data published by the Beijing Municipal Public Security Bureau.

According to the content of the "Annual Report":

1. The incidence of malignant tumors in Beijing has gradually increased, but the mortality rate has shown a downward trend

In 2017, there were 50070 new cases of malignant tumors among registered residents in Beijing, with an incidence rate of 367.88 per 100,000. The average annual percentage change in the past 10 years was 2.11%, showing an upward trend, especially the incidence of thyroid cancer, female breast cancer and colorectal cancer Significant growth.

The mortality rate of malignant tumors in the city is 191.38 per 100,000, and the average annual percentage change in the past 10 years is -1.06%. The decline in mortality has an important relationship with the overall cancer diagnosis and treatment level in Beijing, and it is also related to thyroid cancer and female breast cancer. The increase in the proportion of cancer patients is related to the better treatment effect of these two types of cancer.

However, as the main cause of death for Beijing residents for many years, as the population ageing deepens, the hazards of malignant tumors will continue to appear in the future, and effective prevention and control remains a top priority.

2. The incidence spectrum of men and women presents different characteristics

The male morbidity rate in Beijing is lower than that of females. The male to female morbidity ratio is about 1: 1.09, but the death rate is higher than that of females.

The top five incidences of men were lung cancer, colorectal cancer, liver cancer, gastric cancer and prostate cancer, and the top five incidences of women were breast cancer, lung cancer, thyroid cancer, colorectal cancer and uterine body cancer.

Regardless of men and women, lung cancer is the first cause of death from malignant tumors, followed by colorectal cancer.

3. The morbidity population is mainly the elderly, and there are obvious regional differences in morbidity and death

The incidence of malignant tumors in different age groups in Beijing began to rise rapidly from 20-24 years old, and reached a peak at 80-84 years old. The elderly population accounted for 49.1% of all new cases.

Mortality rates of different age groups have risen rapidly from 40-44 years old, and reach a peak at 85 years and above.

In terms of geographical distribution, the incidence of malignant tumors in Beijing’s urban areas is higher than that in the suburbs, while the mortality rate is lower than that in the suburbs. There are also certain differences in the distribution of common cancer types. In addition to differences in the level of diagnosis and treatment, it is mainly due to suburban esophageal cancer, liver cancer, and gastric cancer. The proportion of tumors with poor treatment effect is higher than that in urban areas.

The quality of Beijing cancer registration data has reached international standards. It has been included in the World Health Organization's "Five Continents Cancer Incidence Rate" and the Global Cancer Survival Surveillance Project (CONCORD). It is currently an important database representing China in the International Agency for Cancer Research.

It is reported that the Beijing Cancer Prevention and Research Office plans to release the "Beijing Cancer Registration Annual Report" once a year to provide a more solid and scientific basis for cancer prevention and control. At the same time, it will continue to improve the cancer prevention and treatment system, and actively carry out cancer screening and health education. Improve the ability of cancer prevention and treatment personnel, strengthen residents' awareness of cancer prevention and treatment, and effectively improve the health of the people.
