Hamburg (dpa) - The top management at the consumer goods and cosmetics manufacturer Beiersdorf is being filled.

CEO Stefan De Loecker (53) surprisingly leaves the group, as the company announced on Tuesday evening in Hamburg.

The Supervisory Board and De Loecker have mutually agreed to terminate their Management Board mandate on June 30, 2021.

The company listed in the MDax did not give a reason for the early departure.

Vincent Warnery (52) has been appointed as the new CEO with effect from May 1, 2021.

The Frenchman's contract has also been extended by five years to the end of January 2027.

Warnery is reportedly currently responsible for the Pharmacy & Selective business and the North American business.

He has been a member of the Beiersdorf Executive Board since February 2017.

Beiersdorf only announced at the beginning of April that board member Asim Naseer would leave the company when his contract expired.

Beiersdorf, headquartered in Hamburg, was relegated from the German stock index Dax in March after a good twelve years and had to make way for Siemens Energy in the first German stock market league.

The group employs over 20,000 people worldwide. In the Corona year 2020, sales shrank by 8.2 percent compared to 2019 to 7.025 billion euros. The group profit collapsed by 19.3 percent to 636 million euros. In the first quarter of 2021, the company grew faster than expected. The Hamburg-based company benefited from a significant increase in its Tesa adhesives business. According to preliminary figures, sales rose organically by 6.3 percent to 1.945 billion euros in the first three months. At Beiersdorf, however, the consumer business accounts for the lion's share of sales, while the adhesives business is comparatively small.

"On behalf of all of Beiersdorf, the Supervisory Board thanks Mr. De Loecker for his outstanding success over many years," emphasized Supervisory Board Chairman Reinhard Pöllath.

According to the announcement, De Loecker said: "My goal was to strengthen Beiersdorf in a time of digital change and existential environmental challenges and thus to keep it on the road to success in the long term."

Warnery knows Beiersdorf from years of successful board work, said Pöllath.

"With his extensive skin care experience and successes, he brings the right momentum into our joint efforts for Beiersdorf's future."

Warnery said he had worked very confidently with De Loecker over the past few years.

Warnery has spent his professional life in the health and cosmetics industries.
