Munich (dpa / lby) - The Bavaria-wide compulsory stable for poultry is lifted.

The Ministry of the Environment announced this on Wednesday in Munich.

The background to this is the declining cases of avian influenza - also known as avian flu - in wild birds.

From now on, there is only a locally limited obligation to stalls if there is new evidence of avian influenza.

This means that exhibitions and markets are possible again until further notice.

The avian influenza had spread nationwide since autumn 2020.

According to the information, more than 1,400 cases have been officially established in Germany.

In Bavaria, avian influenza in wild ducks was detected for the first time in November 2020 in the Passau district.

A total of 57 cases of wild birds and 12 domestic / farm poultry populations have been detected in Bavaria since then (as of April 27, 2021).

In order to quickly identify a renewed spread of avian influenza in the wild bird population, Bavaria is continuing the existing wild bird monitoring.

Infection of humans with the pathogen via infected birds or their excretions has not yet become known in Germany.

Close contact with sick or dead poultry should nevertheless be avoided and wild birds found dead should not be touched or moved.
