Hamburg (dpa / lno) - The Hamburg health authority appeals to those vaccinated for the first time with Astrazeneca to keep the dates for the second corona vaccination.

All booked appointments would take place, it said on Wednesday.

According to the information, around 120,000 people in Hamburg have received a vaccination with Astrazeneca so far.

For the first of them, the second vaccinations would be due in the coming week.

According to the new recommendation of the Standing Vaccination Commission (Stiko), people under the age of 60 are given an mRNA vaccine from the manufacturer Biontech / Pfizer or Moderna.

According to the authority, relevant protection already exists after the first dose.

Only both vaccine doses together ensured complete immunization and provided long-term protection against disease.

After new findings about possible side effects, the Stiko had changed its recommendation two weeks ago so that only people over 60 years of age should receive the vaccine from Astrazeneca.

However, younger people still have the option of receiving the vaccine in a doctor's office upon request and after medical advice.
