Wolfsburg (dpa) - Google and the programming school “42 Wolfsburg”, which is largely supported by Volkswagen, have agreed a partnership to jointly advance training and further education in the software sector in Germany.

The school's sponsoring association announced this on Wednesday in Wolfsburg.

In the cooperation, the range of courses in the areas of automotive software applications, cloud computing and sustainability is to be expanded.

The commitment to “42 Wolfsburg” is part of Volkswagen's efforts to counteract the shortage of experts.

According to calculations by the Bitkom digital association, the demand for trained IT specialists in Germany remains high, with over 86,000 vacant positions, even in the pandemic.

The programming school at VW headquarters implements the “42” concept developed by the French entrepreneur Xavier Niel, a private, non-profit and free IT school.

Around the world, 33 further 42 training centers in 20 countries work according to this learning concept, including a school in Heilbronn.

The name "42" pays homage to the book "The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy" by the British author Douglas Adams.

The number there answers the question about the meaning of life.

Google has been supporting educational institutions in Germany such as the Technical University of Munich and the HMS Hamburg Media School for a long time.

High-ranking experts from Google are to appear at “42 Wolfsburg”.

It all started with Vint Cerf, one of the inventors of the Internet.

Max Senges, Managing Director of 42 Wolfsburg, said that 42 stands for the training of the next generation of software developers and thus also for the design of the next generation of mobility and technology use.

"In Google, we have found a partner alongside Volkswagen with whom we are optimistic and solution-oriented for a sustainable economic system."
