Östhammar approves the expansion of the existing final disposal

The decision was hammered out at the City Council meeting on Monday evening.

A government decision is still required before the expansion can be completed.

But both the Swedish Radiation Safety Authority and the Land and Environmental Court have approved the project.

Östhammar's decision is an important step on the way for us to be able to take care of the waste that arises when several Swedish nuclear power reactors are to be dismantled and demolished, says SKB's CEO Johan Dasht.
