Leipzig (dpa / sn) - Four new bells hang in the Leipzig Thomaskirche.

The bells were lifted into the belfry on Tuesday, said Helke Rubitzsch, managing director of the Thomaskirche.

Due to the corona pandemic, however, its consecration was postponed to Reformation Day on October 31.

"It falls on a Sunday this year, so that's a good idea," said Rubitzsch on Tuesday.

After all, they want to celebrate the consecration with many guests and also invite supporters.

The historical bell has been extensively restored and expanded in recent years.

The last time the new bells were cast was a few weeks ago in the Bachert bell foundry in Neunkirchen.

According to the information on Tuesday, the costs of the construction measures total around half a million euros.

Half of them were financed from private donations (260,000 euros) and half from funding from the Free State, the city and the regional church (240,000 euros).
