Berlin (dpa / bb) - A large fire broke out on Monday in a house inhabited by refugees in Berlin-Neukölln.

The police are investigating the suspicion of arson, but according to the initial findings, they do not assume a politically motivated attack by extremists, as a spokeswoman said.

According to the police, a neighbor noticed on Monday around 1:10 p.m. that bulky waste was burning in front of the house in the Rudow district.

The fire spread to the roof of the two-story house.

The alarmed fire brigade put out the fire.

Some 25 people had already left the house themselves, others were taken out by fire fighters.

Because the damaged house was no longer habitable, the people were placed in emergency shelters.

According to a fire department spokesman on Monday, two people were slightly injured by the smoke.

126 firefighters were on duty.
