It is the newspaper The Economist that in a large survey examined the number of deaths per 100,000 inhabitants in 39 different European countries.

It is stated that only three countries have had fewer deaths during the second wave than the first, namely Ireland, Spain and Sweden.

According to the newspaper, a total of 140 people per 100,000 inhabitants have died in Sweden.

Among the worst affected are countries such as the United Kingdom, Belgium and Italy.

The Czech Republic is the country hardest hit and the country has 270 deaths with covid-19 per 100,000 inhabitants.

Tops the list of infected

At the same time as the number of deaths has decreased in Sweden between the first and second wave, several Swedish regions top the list of most infected.

The Västernorrland region has the most cases with 654 infected per 100,000 inhabitants.

The article mentions that these figures may largely depend on a country's ability to test people with symptoms.

In addition to deaths and the number of infected, the magazine has also ranked the countries' work with vaccination of the population.

Sweden lags behind and is only found in nineteenth place on the list of the number of adults who received the first dose, 26.8 percent.

The proportion who received the second dose is even lower by a percentage of 9.1, which means that Sweden in that respect ends up in 24th place among the 39 countries surveyed.
