Israeli affairs expert and Palestinian academic Saleh al-Naami ruled out that Israel would launch a war on Gaza similar to what happened in 2014, and said that Israel has strong reasons for not engaging in an adventure like this.

Al-Naami told Al-Jazeera Mubasher that there are no goals for Israel that it can achieve in Gaza, explaining that the occupation of Gaza - as threatened by the Israeli Chief of Staff - does not serve the interest of Israel - as there is no party that Israel can hand over the Gaza Strip, and that it cannot remain in it.

The Israeli affairs expert linked the Israeli threat to Gaza and the Iranian nuclear program and said that the map of Israeli interests should be viewed at this particular time.

Al-Naami explained that Israel is now working to contain the administration of US President Joe Biden to return to the Iran nuclear deal, noting that it has sent delegations to Washington to dissuade it from the matter.

He explained that the escalation in the Gaza Strip and letting things explode in Jerusalem does not serve the interests of Israel at this time, noting that Israel is exercising threats as a means of deterrence, including taking steps such as closing the fishing grounds in the Gaza Strip.

He said that the continued firing of rockets might force Israel to respond, but he ruled out that a war on Gaza would happen, what happened in 2014, although at that time no one expected that the war on Gaza would last for more than 50 days.

Al-Naami said that Israel is now aware that the problem is in Jerusalem and not in Gaza, and he stressed the need to respond to Israel in Gaza, but without this being at the expense of the Jerusalem uprising, calling on the factions to respond to the Israeli violations, but in a measured manner.

The Israeli affairs expert emphasized that launching rockets is the right of resistance, but this should not negatively affect the gift of Jerusalem.

He explained that the firing of rockets from the Strip could lead to Israel launching a war on the Strip and the outbreak of a confrontation between the resistance and Israel, highlighting this without the Jerusalem uprising.

An Israeli threat to Gaza

Earlier yesterday, the Israeli government approved a military strike on Gaza if Palestinian rockets continued to be fired from it, and this comes after imposing a complete naval closure on the Strip.

The Israeli authorities made the decision to strike, during an urgent meeting of the security small team, called by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, and the security team authorized Netanyahu and Defense Minister Benny Gantz to determine the location, date and size of the strike.

The Palestinian factions launched in recent days a number of rockets and missiles from the Gaza Strip, in solidarity with what the Palestinians are exposed to by the occupation in occupied Jerusalem.
