The victim's vital prognosis was engaged on Monday when he was admitted to hospital.

A 54-year-old tram driver was taken into custody on April 26 in Grenoble (Isère) after running over a pedestrian while he was under the influence of cannabis.

Around noon on Monday, a pedestrian was run over as "he was running across the tracks" near a tram stop in the north of the city, police said.

The pedestrian, a 28-year-old man, was not seen entering the lanes reserved by the tram driver, police said.

The young man, hit in the head and pelvis, was seriously injured.

He was evacuated to the city hospital in a state of absolute emergency, said firefighters.

The driver from Grenoble tested negative for alcohol but positive for cannabis after the accident, which led to him being taken into custody, the Grenoble prosecutor's office said Monday evening.
