A 21-year-old young woman died suddenly after contracting Covid-19 last March.
The victim, a resident of Châtillon (Belgium), had celebrated his birthday four days earlier, reports
La Meuse
.
Tifany Lieffring had no health problems.
"She did not smoke, drink or take drugs," her mother told Belgian media.
Despite being slightly overweight, the young woman suffered neither from hypertension nor from diabetes.
A "rare and unpredictable" case
After contracting the coronavirus, the victim's condition deteriorated sharply in just 24 hours.
She was quickly hospitalized but eventually died of cardiac arrest after a pulmonary embolism from the virus.
"If there is one lesson to be learned […], it is that this disease does not strike only the elderly", declared his mother.
For infectious disease specialist Yves Van Laetherm, interviewed by
L'Avenir
, the death of Tifany Lieffring is a "very rare" and "unpredictable" case.
“Before the age of 20 Belgium must have 3-4, maybe 5, deaths,” said the caregiver.
“And in the early twenties, it's pretty much the same.
