Dresden (dpa / sn) - During their annual “Blitz für Kids” campaign (April 12th to 25th), the police caught almost 2,600 speed sinners, especially in front of elementary schools.

This means that six percent of the almost 43 270 vehicles measured at 330 locations were traveling too fast, as the state police headquarters in Dresden announced on Tuesday.

1255 of them were stopped.

Fine proceedings are initiated in 171 cases and 2405 of the speeding offenders have to pay a fine.

The front runners were a man and a woman in Dresden - at 56 kilometers per hour above the permitted speed and 65 km / h in a 30 zone in front of the elementary school.

The “Blitz für Kids” traffic safety campaign has been a tradition in the Free State since 1995 and has been carried out together with the ADAC Saxony since 1998.

It is intended to raise awareness of the special protection of six to 15-year-olds on the way to school and in their free time in traffic and to warn them to be particularly careful and considerate.

According to the authorities, 1,069 children had road accidents in 2020, three were killed and 243 seriously and 823 slightly injured.

In the previous year there were 1,405 children, three dead, 315 seriously and 1,087 slightly injured.

According to the police, the pleasing decrease is due to the lower volume of traffic and the protective measures in the corona pandemic.
