Marburg (dpa / lhe) - In Marburg, a memorial that was erected on the anniversary of the racist attack in Hanau was destroyed.

A police spokeswoman confirmed reports.

According to her, the work of art on Friedrichsplatz was torn from its anchorage by unknown perpetrators on Saturday night.

So far there is no evidence of the identity of the perpetrators.

The city's advisory council for foreigners suspects, however, that the damage was a racially motivated act.

The racially motivated attack in Hanau in March 2020 triggered nationwide horror.

The 43-year-old German Tobias R. shot and killed nine people at several crime scenes in the city before presumably killing his mother and himself.
