Hanover (dpa) - The tourism group Tui is now expanding its offer to other southern holiday destinations after the much-discussed Easter restart on Mallorca.

From next weekend (May 1st) there will be trips to the neighboring Balearic islands of Ibiza and Formentera, the company announced.

A few days later, the first flights to Faro on the Portuguese Algarve are planned for May 5th.

Important Greek destinations such as Crete, Rhodes, Kos, Corfu and the western Peloponnese are to follow from mid-May.

With a view to the Corona situation, the Hanoverians initially had to postpone a number of trips - but in the meantime the conditions in more and more regions are so good that a safe holiday is possible.

"We are in close contact with the hoteliers and the governments in the destinations who have prepared intensively for the arrival of the guests," said Tui Germany boss Marek Andryszak.

There is “a good infrastructure for tests”.

After the German travel warning for the Balearic Islands was lifted, Tui brought the season start planned there a week forward in March.

Proponents of stricter corona measures as well as domestic tourists to the North and Baltic Seas or in the low mountain ranges had expressed criticism because they were not yet allowed to accommodate guests again.

From Andryszak's point of view, the model with the associated protection concepts has proven itself in Spain: "The Easter holiday on Mallorca has shown that package tours have no influence on the pandemic."

Another cornerstone for the 2021 holiday season is that vaccinations continue to pick up speed and digital evidence could provide clarity about infection protection.

Tui offers, among other things, tests in its hotels before the journey home.

The program in Mallorca will be supplemented.

In Ibiza this year, Andryszak said that instead of partying, it was going to be a «quiet vacation».

According to the company, travel offers to Menorca are to be followed up later.

The Greek islands would be from 14./15.

May on gradually approached from several German airports.

On the status of the pandemic fight, Tui CEO Fritz Joussen recently spoke of "some good signals and developments" - in the customers' home countries as well as in some target areas.

You always have to see the regional conditions differentiated, he told the German press agency: “If you get on a plane to Mallorca, where there is a low incidence, you will not be more at risk of infection for others after your return than if you go to Would have stayed at home. "

The medium-term bookings for trips to the Caribbean or for cruises have recently "increased significantly" again.
