Düsseldorf (dpa / lnw) - NRW Prime Minister Armin Laschet (CDU) praised the social partnership in NRW, especially in times of the Corona, at the traditional state reception for employee representatives.

"Every company that has a works council as a partner at its side in this situation can consider itself lucky," said Laschet on Monday, according to a statement from the State Chancellery of North Rhine-Westphalia and the German Federation of Trade Unions in North Rhine-Westphalia.

DGB regional chief Anja Weber warned of social inequality in coping with the consequences of the pandemic: "Employees must not pay for the crisis," she demanded.

On the occasion of the upcoming Labor Day (May 1st), the NRW state government has invited employees to join the group on Monday evening.

Due to the pandemic, the reception will take place digitally for the first time and will be broadcast from the Düsseldorf Ständehaus.

Since Laschet attended the vaccination summit in Berlin until the afternoon, he should be connected from there.

A DGB-NRW spokesman announced that the actual May holiday will also be largely decentralized.

"It is with a heavy heart that we forego major events and demonstrations because of the dynamic infection situation," he said.

The central event is to take place in a drive-in cinema in Düsseldorf.

The DGB wanted to provide more details on Tuesday.

According to the announcement, NRW Labor Minister Karl-Josef Laumann (CDU) underlined the need for strong unions for negotiations with employers.

There are differences between responsible companies and those that frivolously jeopardize the social partnership.

The state stands behind the NRW employees, assured Laumann.

"We must not come to terms with the increasing social division and not get used to clammy municipalities, an unjust education system and ailing infrastructure," demanded Weber.
