The fact that travel, not least abroad, has declined sharply can also be seen on the police's passport offices.

During the first quarter of 2021, there were 40 percent fewer applications compared to a normal year.

Even in 2020, the levels were far below normal.

- We lack approximately 600 0000 passport applications if you are to follow the normal curves, says Per Engström, national coordinator at the police.

More people book trips

Sometime this summer, all adult Swedes are expected to have been offered vaccination.

SVT Nyheter has previously reported that the major travel companies have already seen an increase in bookings of trips abroad.

During late summer and autumn, bookings approach the same levels as before the pandemic.

- We want to urge the public to apply for a passport in good time.

We hope that we do not end up with insurmountable queues, says Per Engström.

A certain increase has already been noticed on the passport offices in the country.

- It has started to book now, so the waiting times increase every week.

If you want to be out in good time and be sure to be able to make a trip, you should review your passport.

Are you doing anything to prepare for a possible rush?

- No we do not.

We expect it to be spread over the year and if you plan poorly, we can not do anything, says Per Engström.

- We try to follow this all the time and urge the public to apply for a passport.

Risks becoming expensive

For those who do not have time to get a passport before the trip, it does not have to be run.

In some cases, it is possible to solve a temporary passport - but it can only be done in a dozen places and costs closer to a thousand bucks.

- It is unnecessary to end up in that situation, Per Engström.
