Start the clip to hear "Bengt" tell more about why he is grateful that the police took him.

He does not want us to publish his real name, nor does he want to show his face.

But "Bengt" wants to tell how the drunk driving verdict has affected him.

- I hope it can help someone from repeating the same mistake, he says.

Over the limit for aggravated drunk driving

The police stop over 25,000 suspected alcohol and drug drunk drivers on Swedish roads every year.

"Bengt" is one of about 170 who were convicted of drunk driving in Halland 2020. The police took him when he, with his truck, left the port area in Halmstad to park a few kilometers away.

- I had drunk a few sips of alcohol in the truck when I was waiting in the harbor, he says.

"Bengt" had just over a per mille of alcohol in his blood, which is above the limit for what counts as gross drunk driving.

He was sentenced to probation and 40 hours of community service.
