Magdeburg (dpa / sa) - With the core demand for better financing of the municipalities and 34 direct candidates, the free voters will run for the state elections in Saxony-Anhalt on June 6th.

In 2016, the party achieved an election result of 2.2 percent with 15 direct candidates, said state chairwoman and top candidate Andrea Menke on Monday at the presentation of the nationwide campaign.

"We are assuming that with more than twice as many direct candidates we will achieve an election result that is more than twice as high."

The Free Voters made citizen-oriented and factual politics.

In addition to an increase in the financial equalization for the municipalities from 1.6 to 1.9 billion euros, the strengthening of rural areas was named as a focus.

The shortage of doctors should be combated and no hospitals should be closed.

In addition, the parents' contributions for childcare in daycare centers and after-school care centers are to be abolished and secondary schools are to be strengthened.

The federal chairman of the Free Voters, Hubert Aiwanger, pointed out the success of his party in other federal states.

"Three state parliaments can no longer be discussed away."
