The USA wants to give 60 million vaccine doses of the corona vaccine from the manufacturer AstraZeneca to other countries.

The Corona advisor to the White House, Andy Slavitt, announced on Monday via Twitter.

The vaccination doses would be released as soon as they were "available".

The vaccine from the British-Swedish pharmaceutical company has not yet been approved in the USA, but is already being produced in the country.

The US government has secured enough vaccines to supply the entire population of around 330 million people without AstraZeneca's product.

The US was most recently accused of hoarding vaccine, while other countries are facing dramatic shortages.

In the United States, around 140 million adults have received at least one dose of vaccine.

This corresponds to around 54 percent of the adult population.

The vaccines from Biontech / Pfizer, Moderna and Johnson & Johnson are currently in use.

AstraZeneca's vaccine, on the other hand, is already being used in Europe and other regions.

However, the EU recently sued the pharmaceutical company because of massive delivery delays.

The EU Commission took legal action against the company on Friday, a spokesman said on Monday.

The EU accuses AstraZeneca of a breach of obligations from the sales contract with a view to the delivery of the vaccine.

AstraZeneca dismissed the lawsuit as "unfounded".

The Astrazeneca vaccine had also hit the headlines in the past few weeks for rare but serious side effects.

The European Medicines Agency (EMA) maintained its positive assessment of the vaccine, but many countries, including Germany, introduced minimum age limits for AstraZeneca vaccinations.
