A statistic issued by the General Administration of Civil Defense in Ajman revealed that the percentage of fires in industrial areas decreased 8.7% last year, and most of the fires were caused by the main failure to implement the prevention and safety requirements.

The owners of industrial facilities in Ajman confirmed that one of the most common causes of fires in the industrial zone is failure to comply with safety conditions, neglect, poor storage, or shop owners' disregard for preventive measures, calling for intensifying supervision so that their facilities are not damaged in the event of a fire near them.

In detail, the Director of the Centers Department in the General Administration of Civil Defense in Ajman, Brigadier General Muhammad Ali Jumeirah, told «Emirates Today» that the statistics issued by the administration indicate that the percentage of fires in industrial areas decreased by 8.7% last year, and that most of the fires that occurred in industrial areas The main reason was the failure to apply the prevention and safety requirements.

He added that the statistic revealed that among the most important causes of fires in industrial areas are negligence, the use of poor-quality electrical tools and equipment, overloads and poor storage, and failure to adhere to preventive measures, despite the intensification of awareness messages.

Jumeirah stressed that the awareness campaigns carried out by the Public Administration are continuing throughout the year, in addition to conducting extensive inspection and auditing campaigns on residential buildings and industrial facilities, to preserve the safety of community members and workers, which is one of the administration's most important priorities.

He stressed the importance of adhering to the prevention and safety requirements, following preventive measures to avoid accidents and fires in industrial areas, and the facilities' fulfillment of the conditions stipulated in the regulations and laws contained in the Emirates Fire Protection Code.

In addition, the owner of warehouses in the industrial zone, Muneeb Muhammad, stated that he had previously seen a warehouse and scrap fire near his workshop due to poor storage of equipment and tools, pointing out that he had been instructed more than once by the civil defense inspection teams to modify some things to avoid the occurrence of fires, and he took Modified at their request.

He called for tightening supervision and organizing teams to inspect facilities, especially with the approaching summer season and high temperatures, to avoid fires.

The owner of the workshop, Aslam Ashraf, said that he is committed to the conditions of security and safety, pointing out that the store in which he works contains highly flammable materials and uses petroleum materials such as gasoline in his work, pointing out that he was exposed to a minor fire accident during the past years, and thanks to the fire extinguishers in his possession he was able to Extinguish it without damage or injury.
