Düsseldorf (dpa / lnw) - In the Corona year 2020, significantly less outerwear was produced in North Rhine-Westphalia than before the pandemic.

A total of 22 manufacturing companies were still producing 6 million items of outerwear, as the State Statistical Office IT.NRW announced on Monday.

Compared to 2019, this means a decrease of 28 percent.

The sales value fell by 23.4 percent to 232 million euros.

This means that production in the most populous federal state developed in a similar way to that in the entire federal territory.

As the statisticians announced, outerwear worth 440 million euros (-23.2 percent compared to 2019) was produced nationwide.

As in the previous year, the share of outerwear manufactured in North Rhine-Westphalia in the total production value in Germany was 52.9 percent.

The production of outerwear in North Rhine-Westphalia declined in all quarters of 2020: In the first quarter, the North Rhine-Westphalian companies produced 20.3 percent and in the second 49.3 percent less outerwear than in the corresponding period of the previous year.

In the third quarter the production value was 17.0 percent and in the fourth 30.5 percent lower than a year earlier.
