Waghäusel (dpa) - World-class javelin thrower Andreas Hofmann is still hoping to participate in the Olympics despite an operation on the throwing arm.

On February 3rd, a tendon from the forearm was inserted into the elbow of the vice-European champion of 2018.

“The second follow-up is due this week.

I hope that I will then get the green light for weight training.

I can straighten my elbows again, "said the 29-year-old from MTG Mannheim in an interview with" Badische Neuesten Nachrichten "(Monday).

Hofmann was German champion in 2018 and 2019 and has a personal best of 92.06 meters.

At the 2019 World Cup in Doha / Qatar, he was considered a title contender, but surprisingly dropped out of the qualification.

“The door isn't closed for me yet.

I haven't written off the Olympics yet, "said Hofmann, referring to the summer games in Tokyo.

Throwing the norm of 85 meters by the end of June is a big challenge.

"But I also don't think that 85 meters are enough for the top three in Germany in view of the great competition."

Hofmann, Olympic champion Thomas Röhler (Jena) and ex-world champion Johannes Vetter (Offenburg) have been among the world's best for years.
