Munich (dpa) - After weeks of extreme pain in the elbow, the German tennis star Alexander Zverev hopes for an end to the worries in time for the start of the ATP tournament in Munich.

"At the moment I have no more pain," reported the 24-year-old on Monday.

At the weekend he had trained again for the first time after a break, which was particularly painful recently.

A final medical check was planned for the afternoon.

"Then I can hopefully open up again without a thought and do everything."

After a bye, Zverev will not start the BMW Open until the middle of the week.

The world number six reported that he has had problems with his joint since the French Open in autumn 2020, but did not take a break afterwards.

It was worst at the Masters tournament in Miami at the end of March.

"In Miami I was at a point where I could no longer hold the bat," said Zverev.

"I played with extreme pain relievers."

This would also have resulted in him suffering heat stroke and eliminated in the second round.

Investigations had shown that he had wounds on the bones and that there was a lot of fluid in the joint.

Treatment with cortisone was "relatively pointless".

After his appearance at the Masters in Monte Carlo, where he was eliminated in the round of 16, he had processed autologous blood injected into his bones.

"I hope it will get better at some point," he said.

At the 250 event in Munich, Zverev is number one and is aiming for his third tournament victory at the BMW Open.
