The Three Gorges ship lock and ship lift play an important role in the Yangtze River shipping. The Three Gorges ship lift, known as the "ship elevator", is currently the largest ship lift in the world.

About 3 kilometers away from the left bank of the Three Gorges Dam, is the location of Xujiachong Village, Taipingxi Town, Yiling District.
This new village for immigrants from the Three Gorges is known as the "First Village of Batou Kushou".
