• Anticipating a renewal of the public service delegation in 2023, the Jeunes Transports Bordeaux collective is proposing measures to improve mobility.

  • The collective carried out a survey of 400 young people and met with specialized associations (Vélocité, Bordeaux metro association etc.)

  • Among the strong proposals, pricing measures for minors, students and precarious people and better connections to the campus.

  • Improving transport on the right bank, which has not received much water from the network until now, is also one of the major challenges for the coming years for this group.

In 2023, the Kéolis contract for the management of the tram and bus network in the Bordeaux metropolitan area expires and will lead to the renewal of the public service delegation (DSP).

The Jeunes Transports Bordeaux collective, which brings together eight organizations, believes that it is the right moment to propose some twenty measures to improve mobility in the agglomeration.

Their plan is based on a survey carried out from October to March among 400 young people.

While three out of four young people say they use public transport in this survey, they are asking, for example, for better connections to the campus, to the right bank, a bicycle plan and lower prices.

Lower prices for minors, students

For students and minors, the collective is asking for a reduction in the price of the subscription to 12 euros per month, against 20.40 euros per month currently.

"We must keep in mind the differences that exist between our city and others, points out Solën Jouin, coordinator of the young communists Gironde.

The Toulouse example is quite striking.

Minors pay 8.50 euros per month against 20.40 in Bordeaux, students 12 against 20.40 in Bordeaux, while the dimensions are relatively similar and the city network is more developed there since it has a metro.

"

Improve campus service

Line B of the tramway which serves the Talence and Pessac campuses is known to be one of the most congested.

"To relieve its access, we are proposing the creation of a 4 bis liana to serve the north of the campus and new switches on line B to allow better circulation of the tram", suggests Carole Mounaix, elected at the University of Bordeaux Montaigne.

In the longer term, the collective believes that additional bus lines will be necessary, in particular to transport students who come from the most peripheral municipalities.

Develop safe cycle paths

The collective shares the idea of the velocity association according to which it is necessary to develop spaces dedicated to cyclists, two-way,

from the city center to the ring road via the campuses.

“For example,

the cycle path from Doyen Brus to Arts et Métiers can only be fully effective if it is linked to the center of Bordeaux,” he explains.

Open up the right bank

"It is a very large territory, without a central point, it is difficult to serve it equally and areas are found abandoned," observes Baptiste of the FSU.

Tram A is very insufficient and the few buses do not remedy the lack of public transport ”.

The collective suggests thinking about a new tram service.

"It could be a question of crossing line D by the Pierre bridge, so that it serves the south of the right bank at Floirac and Bouliac, and whose terminus could be one of the gateways to the metropolis for the inhabitants of Entre-deux-mers, ”he wrote.

Take seriously the hypothesis of a metro

For the collective, the saturation of the public transport network must invite decision-makers to anticipate, taking into account the significant demographic growth at work in the metropolis.

“We worked with the Metro Bordeaux association, which did a rich and thorough job, mobilizing people whose job it is,” underlines Solën Jouin.

The collective is in contact with the mobility service of the metropolis and wishes above all to "launch the debate with all elected officials.

He has launched an online petition for those who would like to support his plan.
