Berlin (AP) - Thuringia's Prime Minister Bodo Ramelow considers the federal emergency brake to be ineffective in his state.

"In Thuringia, the emergency brake will not bring anything," said the left-wing politician to the Berlin "Tagesspiegel am Sonntag".

Almost everything that is in the law is already practiced in his state.

The only consequence for Thuringia is that most of the schools have to be closed.

"In the end, the children are the ones who suffer again," complained Ramelow.

The head of government called for stricter corona rules for the economy, which would also have to be implemented nationwide.

"We shouldn't always use the same industries - gastronomy, hotel and retail - to ward off pandemics."

The unequal distribution of burdens is also a constitutional problem.

Ramelow accused Chancellor Angela Merkel (CDU) of moving away from a hard lockdown over Easter under pressure from the economy.

"The Easter rest failed not because of the federal states, but ultimately because of lobbying," said Ramelow.
