Berlin (dpa) - One and a half years after the collapse of the travel company Thomas Cook, the federal government has so far paid out around 103 million euros to damaged customers.

The sum is distributed over around 74,000 cases, according to a spokesman for the Ministry of Justice.

Accordingly, the payment is still pending for 32,000 more (as of April 20).

According to the ministry, those affected who have registered on a special portal should essentially receive the money by June 30th.

The “Mannheimer Morgen” had previously reported on the numbers.

The German Thomas Cook got sucked into the bankruptcy of the British mother in 2019 and filed for bankruptcy.

The company canceled booked trips even if they had been paid for in full or in part.

The federal government reimburses package travelers for that part of their expenses that neither the Swiss insurance group Zurich nor third parties cover.

The prerequisite is that customers have previously reported their claims to the insolvency administrator and asserted them to the insurance company.

Zurich only partially stepped in because the sum insured was insufficient.
