Los Angeles (AP) - Film fans all over the world are looking forward to the 93rd Academy Awards ceremony on Sunday evening (local time; in Germany, Monday morning 2 a.m.).

With ten nominations, the biography "Mank" is the big favorite.

Six films have six chances to win, including "The Father", "Nomadland", "Sound of Metal" and "The Trial of the Chicago 7".

Stars like Viola Davis, Frances McDormand, Carey Mulligan, Gary Oldman, Anthony Hopkins and posthumously Chadwick Boseman are in the running for the acting awards this year.

There is no gala presenter, instead 18 filmmakers, including Halle Berry, Reese Witherspoon, Harrison Ford and Brad Pitt, help as presenters.

In Los Angeles, in addition to the traditional Dolby Theater, the Union Station building will be used as a stage for the first time.

Due to Corona requirements and the associated travel difficulties, international locations are also planned from which price contenders can be added.
