After finding debris on Saturday, the Indonesian navy said it found the wreckage of the submarine on Sunday.

This one, broken in three, was off Bali.

The 53 people who made up the crew of the KRI Nanggala are dead.

The Indonesian president offered his condolences earlier today.

The Indonesian Navy announced on Sunday that it had found the submarine that sank off Bali and confirmed that the 53 crew members were all dead.

The ship, broken into three parts and which had disappeared on Wednesday, was found in the seabed off Bali, according to Navy Chief of Staff Yudo Margono.

Indonesian Armed Forces Commander Hadi Tjahjanto confirmed to reporters that "all 53 crew members are dead."

The authorities had little hope

A heavy toll unfortunately expected.

The submarine had disappeared Wednesday and the authorities estimated by Saturday that the oxygen reserves were exhausted.

The navy had in fact calculated that in the event of a power failure following damage, the sailors would have 72 hours of maximum autonomy.

The navy had also found at sea several debris of the submarine, some of which came from inside the submersible, suggesting irremediable damage which was indeed observed on the wreckage. Earlier today, Indonesian President Joko Widodo offered his condolences to the families of the crew members on Sunday. "We Indonesians wish to express our deep sadness over this incident, and especially to the families of the crew of the submarine," Widodo told reporters.
