Feldkirchen (dpa / lby) - According to the hunting association, there are currently more game accidents on Bavaria's roads.

In spring, the accident rate generally increases, said Isabel Koch from the Bavarian Hunting Association in Feldkirchen.

However, the hunters also observed an increase because more people were out and about in the forests due to the Corona crisis - some of them off the beaten track.

"Startled by such alarms, the wild animals flee and run across the streets," said Koch.

Roebucks look for new territories according to their information in spring.

As a result, they crossed roads more often than in other times of the year, and more accidents occur.

It is similar with red deer, which migrate from their winter quarters to their usual areas in spring.

According to the hunting association, there were around 11,400 accidents involving game in Bavaria in January and February.

45 people were injured and a passenger died in a car.

This means that the figures are roughly at the level of the same period in the previous year.

Red deer, roe deer or fallow deer were particularly often involved in the accidents.

With almost 9200 animals, their number has increased by more than 16 percent compared to the previous year.

More recent police figures are not yet available.

What is striking, however, is that the number of accidents involving animals in the mornings and mornings in January and February decreased compared to the same period in the previous year, while it rose from noon.

From 9:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m., they stayed roughly the same.

The hunting association suspects that this could also be related to the changed behavior of people in the Corona crisis: There are fewer trips to the office, but more people are out and about in nature during the day.
