The French Mélanie De Jesus Dos Santos won the gold medal on the beam at the European Gymnastics Championships in Basel (Switzerland) on Sunday.

The leader of French gymnastics, who is aiming for a podium at the Tokyo Olympics, beat Olympic champion Sanne Wevers with a score of 13.900 points against 13.866 points for the Dutch.

After a European title in 2018 (floor) and two in 2019 (floor and all-around), she won her 4th European title in Switzerland.

In 2019, she won the silver medal on beam at the European Championships.

The second French competitor on beam, Marine Boyer, who finished 4th at the Rio Olympics, finished 6th (12.866 pts).

Coming first in qualifying, the Romanian Larisa Iordache did not take part in the beam final.

Suffering from a kidney infection that occurred just after qualifying, she had already withdrawn from the all-around final.

Mélanie Jesus Dos Santos, 21, inaugurated a new outing on this apparatus (double twisted back salto), starting with a higher level of difficulty than the other competitors and therefore, despite some imbalances, won the competition.

She had come to these championships with the idea of honing her movements for the Olympics but had not participated in the all-around competition.

His new move on uneven bars was cut short in qualifying.
