Mönchengladbach (AP) - Before the Bundesliga game against Arminia Bielefeld, the players from Borussia Mönchengladbach encouraged their injured teammate Mamadou Doucouré with a joint action.

The football professional had torn his Achilles tendon and, according to his club, will have to undergo surgery next week on Sunday.

Before the kick-off, the team and the support team got together for a photo and held up four jerseys of the central defender with the number 4.

After his opening goal for Gladbach in the sixth minute, Breel Embolo also ran to the bench and held Doucouré's jersey up.

"You can't put into words what this boy has to endure," said sports director Max Eberl on TV channel Sky about the 22-year-old Doucouré, who had to struggle with injuries again and again in his young career.

"It makes me proud when the team plans and implements such an action themselves."
