According to a previous decision, soft drinks will stop being served in connection with meals at nursing homes in the municipality from 1 May.

However, it remains as an option on major holidays.

- We have made this decision so that those who live with us will feel good and get the food they need.

We should not contribute to reduced appetite but serve a good and nutritious diet.

Then, of course, each resident has the opportunity to decide what they want to drink.

Mineral water, light beer and mealtime drinks are the range we as a municipality offer, writes Malin Johansson, social manager in Gislaved municipality in a press release.

May be forced to back off

But now that, as they themselves write in a comment "has become a very lively debate" about the decision, they may come back.

- Yes, but of course our elderly should be able to choose to drink soft drinks if they want to drink soft drinks.

So they are adults and they have to decide for themselves what they drink for their food.

As chairman of the municipal board, I will therefore now work to change this decision.

I am convinced that there is a broad political majority for the municipality to back down and do the right thing, says Carina Johansson (C), chairman of the municipal board in Gislaved.

Did not give soft drinks to the elderly

In the press release, they also write that a private person has been and left soft drinks to the elderly.

But that they can not receive the soft drink because it is a gift.

- The gesture is very nice and the idea is good, but we as a public activity can not accept gifts or risk harming those who live with us if the soft drink would be contaminated in any way, writes social director Malin Johansson.

But even at that point, the municipality can now come back.

- We must also take care of the soft drink that a private person donated to the municipality.

If the rules do not allow us to receive that soft drink, then we must ensure that it is donated to charity, so that it is not wasted, says Carina Johansson (C).
