Yesterday, Saturday, the confrontations in occupied Jerusalem were renewed for the twelfth consecutive night, after the occupation forces suppressed Palestinian youths in the Damascus Gate Square, while Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu instructed the army to prepare to deal with every possible scenario in the Gaza Strip.

The Israeli police attacked worshipers in the Bab al-Amud area (central Jerusalem) with batons and threw sound and gas bombs at them as they left Al-Aqsa Mosque after performing the evening prayers and Tarawih prayers.

On the other hand, Palestinian youths threw stones and bottles at the Israeli police.

According to eyewitnesses, the confrontations spread to other areas in Jerusalem, especially the towns of Silwan and Al-Tur, which are adjacent to the city.

The Palestinian Red Crescent said that "14 people were injured in the clashes with the Israeli occupation forces in the vicinity of the Old City of occupied Jerusalem."

The confrontations spread to separate areas in the West Bank, when the occupation suppressed marches that took place in several areas of the West Bank, including Ramallah and Nablus, denouncing the Israeli repression and supporting the steadfastness of worshipers in Al-Aqsa Mosque.

In Nablus, 3 Palestinians were suffocated on Saturday evening, when the Israeli occupation forces suppressed a march near the Hawara checkpoint (south of the city).

The northern Al-Bireh checkpoint (center) also witnessed sporadic clashes, during which Palestinian youths closed the main road near the "Beit El" settlement, while the Israeli forces fired stun grenades and tear gas, but no injuries were recorded.

In Hebron, in the south of the West Bank, hundreds participated in a march in the city center, which developed into clashes with the Israeli army, without causing any casualties.

The repeated Israeli attacks on worshipers since the first day of the month of Ramadan have tense conditions in the city, especially in the Bab al-Amud and Bab al-Sahira areas.

On Thursday, clashes between Israeli forces and the Palestinians reached their climax in and around Jerusalem, following the attacks carried out by Israeli settlers against Palestinians in the city.

Since Thursday, at least 105 Palestinians have been injured during the clashes in the city, while the Israeli police have arrested at least 50 others.

Tension in Gaza

In a related context, the Al-Jazeera correspondent in Gaza reported that the Palestinian factions fired a number of mortar shells at an Israeli military site east of the city, in solidarity with the Palestinians in occupied Jerusalem.

Yesterday evening, Saturday evening, rocket fire from the Gaza Strip continued towards Israeli sites and settlements, while the Israeli Iron Dome system tried to intercept it in the sky of the Strip.

Israeli aircraft also launched raids at dawn on Saturday, targeting a Palestinian resistance site and parts of agricultural land in areas of the Gaza Strip, causing material damage.

Hamas has warned the Israeli occupation against continuing the escalation against the Gaza Strip and its repeated violations in occupied Jerusalem, and held the occupation responsible for the repercussions of "racist provocative actions" carried out by its soldiers and settlers in Al-Aqsa Mosque.

The movement’s spokesman, Fawzi Barhoum, considered that the Palestinian resistance’s response to the aggression is within the framework of carrying out its national and ethical duty to protect the interests of the Palestinian people, defend them, and break the equations of the occupation.

The Islamic Jihad movement also said that the Palestinian resistance will respond to any Israeli aggression in the same way, and will not allow the occupation army to bypass the rules of engagement. Khaled Al-Batsh, a member of the movement’s political bureau, confirmed that Al-Aqsa Mosque is a red line, and that the Palestinian people with their unity will fail the aggressive occupation plans.

As for the Secretary of the Palestinian National Council, Muhammad Sobeih, he said - in a radio interview - that the council went to the parliaments of the world, the League of Arab States and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, to convey to them the racist attacks and ethnic cleansing that East Jerusalem is facing, according to his description.

Israeli preparedness

For his part, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said that he had issued directives for the army to be prepared and prepared to deal with any possible scenario in the Gaza Strip, adding that the most important priority of his government is currently maintaining law and order in Jerusalem, and securing freedom of worship for all, as he put it.

Netanyahu's decisions came at the end of a three-hour consultative security meeting to assess the situation against the background of the escalation in Gaza and the deterioration in Jerusalem, in which Defense Minister Benny Gantz, Chief of the Military Staff Aviv Kochavi, and the leaders of the army and security services participated in it.

In turn, Kohavi decided to postpone his visit to the United States in light of recent developments.

Arab condemnations

Egypt condemned the acts of violence and incitement carried out by extremist Jewish groups against the Palestinian residents of the Old City of occupied Jerusalem, and expressed its "grave concern" about the escalation of attacks and provocative actions against Jerusalemites since the beginning of Ramadan.

Cairo stressed the need for the Israeli authorities to assume their responsibility in accordance with international law to provide protection for Palestinian civilians, and not to prejudice the right of worshipers to freely access Al-Aqsa Mosque.

Egypt demanded to stop the Israeli violations that target the Arab, Islamic and Christian identity of the city of Jerusalem, and to change the historical and legal status existing there.

The Jordanian Foreign Minister, Ayman Safadi, said on Twitter that Jordan condemns the racist attacks on Jerusalem, warns of their consequences, and called for effective international action to protect Jerusalemites from the attacks and the "hatred and racism they represent."

In a statement today, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation condemned the Israeli attacks, and held Israel "fully responsible for the consequences of the continuation of such provocative attacks that fuel violence, tension and hatred."

As for the United States, it called for restraint, and its embassy in occupied Jerusalem advised its citizens to exercise caution and caution.

The State Department spokesman, Ned Price, expressed his country's deep concern about the escalation of violence, and said - in a tweet - that "the speech of extremist demonstrators who chant slogans of hatred and violence must be rejected."
