Bad Ems (dpa / lrs) - Five districts in Rhineland-Palatinate have fewer than 100 inhabitants per square kilometer.

According to the State Statistical Office in Bad Ems, the Vulkaneifel, Bitburg-Prüm, Cochem-Zell, Bernkastel-Wittlich and Südwestpfalz districts belong to these particularly sparsely populated regions in the rural federal state.

In contrast, 14 administrative districts have more than 300 inhabitants per square kilometer.

These include the five largest cities in the country: Mainz, Koblenz, Ludwigshafen, Kaiserslautern and Trier.

But also, above all, other regions along the Rhine.

Rhineland-Palatinate has a total of just under 4.1 million inhabitants.

The nationwide population has grown in recent years.
