Chemnitz (dpa / sn) - After a fire in an eleven-story prefabricated building in Chemnitz, the police assume arson.

After completing the investigation of the location of the fire, specialists assume that the fire was deliberately set in the basement area, as a police spokesman said on Sunday.

Further details were not given for tactical reasons.

The fire broke out around 9 p.m. on Friday evening.

The fire brigade evacuated the two upper floors of the building due to the heavy smoke development.

28 people were brought to safety and housed for about three hours in two buses of the Chemnitzer Verkehrs-AG.

After the extinguishing work ended around midnight, they were able to return to their apartments.

The amount of damage caused was initially unknown.
