Paris / Geneva (dpa) - Israeli fashion designer Alber Elbaz died at the age of 59.

This was announced by the Swiss luxury goods company Richemont.

«It was with shock and enormous sadness that I heard of Alber's sudden death.

Alber had a well-deserved reputation as one of the brightest and most popular personalities in the industry, ”said Richemont boss Johann Rupert.

Richemont is involved in Elbaz fashion label AZ Factory.

Elbaz attracted a lot of attention at the Paris haute couture shows in January, as he launched his first label, AZ Factory.

In his “Show Fashion” he explained his concept: fashion that goes hand in hand with technology.

For example, Elbaz has developed special jersey fabrics that can individually shape the body through various levels of elasticity.

Richemont boss Rupert said: "I have always been fascinated by his intelligence, sensitivity, generosity and unbridled creativity."
