A 71-year-old anesthetist was sentenced to eight months in prison by the Béziers criminal court.

He had uttered insults of an anti-Semitic nature published on an account of the Russian social network VKontakte.

His words had been discovered by the National Office for Vigilance Against Antisemitism, an association had lodged a complaint on April 16, 2020. The courts had noted racist and anti-Semitic comments on March 24, 2000 and May 29, 2000.

Affected by the coronavirus, he could not bear to be forced to isolate himself

During his hearing by the gendarmes, he explained that he had not known that his writings were public and had claimed to have written them when he had contracted Covid 19. Forced to isolate himself without being able to treat his patients, he explained , during the hearing, his disagreement, his fatigue and his exasperation with the health measures taken by the government.

In addition to his suspended sentence, the court also ordered the publication of the sentence as well as the deprivation of his right to stand for election.
