Berlin (dpa) - Despite the restrictions imposed by the new Corona emergency brake, Deutsche Bahn is preparing for increased demand in the summer.

"The train is planning in the summer - if the Corona situation allows - with more than 10,000 additional seats a day in long-distance traffic alone," said a rail spokesman.

For comparison: a first-generation ICE has around 700 seats.

In the past year, there was a rapid surge in demand when the number of infections fell at Pentecost and there was easing, the spokesman said.

In the summer months of July, August and September there should be holiday trains to the coasts and into the mountains again this year.

The state-owned company intends to announce details of the summer schedule by the beginning of June.

The “Bild am Sonntag” had previously reported on it.

For vacation trips, restrictions apply in large parts of Germany due to the increased number of corona infections.

In many places there are nocturnal exit restrictions.

Business trips are possible during this time, but the arrival or departure of vacationers is not possible.

Vacation trips in Germany are currently severely restricted anyway due to the national rules.

Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, for example, generally forbids tourists from other federal states or abroad to enter the country.

Accommodation offers for tourist purposes are prohibited in Bavaria.
