Corona rapid tests often give the wrong alarm after an initial assessment by the Hamburg Senate.

In the three weeks from March 22nd to April 11th, 2035 positive rapid test results were reported to the health authorities, the Senate reported in response to a small inquiry from the CDU parliamentary group.

The following PCR tests would only have confirmed 68.5 percent of the cases.

"The rate of false positive rapid test results was thus 31.5 percent," said the Senate answer.

Hundreds of thousands of rapid tests are now carried out every week in Hamburg. The Senate cannot say exactly how many there are: "A complete monitoring of all rapid tests carried out in the city beyond the test centers is not feasible due to the large number of different, also private and other areas that carry out these tests." ensures that positive test results are made available to health authorities from all areas. Rapid tests are usually done under the guidance of trained personnel.

The social policy spokesman for the CDU parliamentary group, Andreas Grutzck, asked the Senate to report in more detail on the test every week.

This included information on the number of rapid tests and the number of PCR tests performed as a result of positive rapid and self-test results.

“Of course, the pandemic is accompanied by great uncertainty among citizens.

It is all the more important that the Senate explains facts through clear communication, ”emphasized Grutzeck.
