Warsaw (dpa / lsw) - The exceptional German wrestler Frank Stäbler failed in his first fight at the European Championships in Warsaw.
The defending champion and three-time world champion was defeated on Saturday in the second round of the Greco-Roman weight class up to 72 kilograms Selcuk Can.
Because the Turk then missed the final, Stäbler no longer had a chance of the hopes and was eliminated after a fight at the last European Championship of his career.
The 31-year-old Musberger was affected by a shoulder injury.
Against Can he already led with 5: 0 points, but then allowed himself to be countered and retired after a 6: 6 because his opponent made the last points.
Can then had no chance in the quarter-finals against Roman Pacurkowski from Poland (3:11).
In the evening, Stäbler's teammates Fabian Schmitt (-55 kg), Michael Widmayer (-77 kg), Denis Kudla (-87) and Eduard Popp (-130 kg) will each be in the small finals for bronze in their weight classes.
