Hamburg (dpa / lno) - The Hamburg FDP decided on Saturday about its candidates for the federal election in September.

As the top candidate, the former member of parliament Michael Kruse prevailed over his competitors at an online meeting.

In addition to Kruse, the former federal chairman of the Young Liberals (July), Ria Schröder, Wieland Schinnenburg, Member of the Bundestag, and Carl Cevin-Key Coste, head of the federal state for July, applied as top candidates.

In a run-off election that had become necessary, Kruse prevailed with 272 votes against Coste (132 votes), as a party spokesman said.

So far, the FDP Hamburg is represented by two members in the Bundestag.

There were also several applicants for places two and three on the list.

The elections initially lasted in the afternoon.

On Sunday, the Elbe liberals also want to re-elect their state board at an online party conference.

The previous state chairman and member of the Bundestag, Katja Suding, announced her retirement from politics last year.

As possible successors, Schinnenburg and Kruse have thrown their hats into the ring.
