Berlin (dpa / bb) - The Eisbären Berlin have reached the semi-finals of the German Ice Hockey League (DEL).

On Saturday, the capital city won the decisive quarter-final game against the Iserlohn Roosters 5: 3 (0: 2, 4: 1, 1: 0) and thus prevailed 2: 1 in the best-of-three series.

Matt White scored three goals, and Kris Foucault and Ryan McKiernan scored for Berlin, who owed their success to an increase in performance in the second period.

Your opponent in the semi-final was not yet known at the end of the game.

In front of empty stands in the arena at Ostbahnhof, the hosts barely succeeded in doing anything for a long time.

Thanks to two goals from Marko Friedrich, the Iserlohners went into the first break with a two-goal advantage.

White initiated the turnaround in favor of the Berliners 49 seconds after the restart with an energetic performance: The American conquered the puck in his own third and completed his solo run ice cold.

A furious phase for the polar bears followed: White scored two more goals, then Foucault also scored.

Immediately before the second siren, however, the guests were able to shorten it with a power play goal from Casey Bailey.

So the capital city had to fear for victory until McKiernan met in the final section after going it alone.
