order to cope with Corona 19, it has been argued that Korea should be made into an Asian vaccine producer.

Tom Frieden, former director of the CDC, was interviewed exclusively by correspondent Kim Soo-hyung in Washington.

Tom Frieden, former director of the CDC Center for Disease Control and Prevention, has been in charge of the U.S. response to the H1N1 flu and Zika virus for eight years since 2009, during the Obama administration.

Former Director Frieden stressed the importance of making Korea a hub for the production of mRNA corona vaccines in order to respond to the corona pandemic.

[Tom Frieden/Former CDC Director: Korea has tremendous capacity to produce vaccines. Korea can be a vaccine producer not only for Korea, but for the whole of Asia.]

Transferring the mRNA production technology to Korea can quickly spread the vaccine to Asia.

[Tom Frieden/Former CDC Director: If you create a hub station, you can transfer the technology there so that the hub can (make vaccines) for other countries. Korea has the potential to make progress very quickly.]

Even companies that can't meet the global demand right now have the benefit of producing more vaccines through technology transfers at appropriate royalties, especially when the US government has paid money for vaccine development. Insisted that Modena should lead the way.

[Tom Frieden/Former CDC Director: We are discussing with Modena. And they are pressing to do this.]

Former Director Frieden warned that the emergence of the mutant virus could put the United States at risk if he insists on US priority.

[Tom Frieden/Former CDC Director: As we've seen, a more dangerous mutant virus could emerge. Vaccine immunity may be bypassed. That's a very important reason.]

Frieden's argument that Korea should become a vaccine hub for the whole of Asia has great implications for us ahead of the Korea-US summit meeting, which requires a vaccination talk.
