Mainz / Trier (dpa / lrs) - With a mixture of hope and fear, outdoor pools in Rhineland-Palatinate look to the new season.

When can they open - and with which corona rules?

This is what operators between the Eifel, Hunsrück and Palatinate are asking themselves.

When the weather is nice, many baths usually start their season in mid-May.

"We would have liked to have opened the Taubertsbergbad on May 1st," says Michael Theurer from the municipal utilities in MAINZ. "But we are not currently assuming this because there are no regulations." The usual preparations were under way in the bathroom. "The basins are not yet filled." Theurer believes that the 2020 hygiene concept with an online booking system has proven itself. "But it is unclear whether a current negative test will be necessary in the future, or what happens to those who have been vaccinated."

Preparations are also under way in LUDWIGSHAFEN.

"Cleaning the pool, the green waste - all in all, the lead time takes eight to nine weeks," says city spokeswoman Sandra Hartmann.

Ludwigshafen would also have liked to open on May 1st, but the municipality does not expect that.

«We are assuming a similar season to 2020.

Back then, tickets could be booked on the Internet and there were time slots with a maximum of 500 visitors. ”

There were positive reactions from the population, she says.

"We are in the starting blocks."

"Last year our outdoor pool was closed for construction work," says city spokesman Thomas Knaak in KOBLENZ.

The last work is currently taking place there.

"When the bathrooms are allowed to reopen, we will come up with a coordinated hygiene concept."

If use is only possible with time slots, Koblenz can offer an online booking and payment system.

The preparatory work is also ongoing in the Südbad in TRIER.

"We are preparing everything so that we will be ready for operation at any time from May 1st," says Anne Paris from Stadtwerke.

Depending on the pandemic situation or the then valid Corona regulation, two slots of 3.5 hours each could be offered, as was the case last year.

The Nordbad in Trier will remain closed in 2021 due to extensive renovation work.

"We are on standby," says Christoph Maurer from ANDERNACH city administration.

The last work was in progress in the outdoor pool.

"All the technical prerequisites are in place that theoretically could open on May 1st."

But the date is uncertain.

"The legal requirements are missing - in other words, the corresponding corona regulations of the state."

In the INGELHEIM outdoor pool and in the BINGEN natural pool, the necessary work, in particular pool cleaning and commissioning of the pool water treatment, is planned so that the season can start from May 15th to mid-September, as managing director Dirk Osterhoff says - Corona pandemic allowed ».

He assumes a renewed visitor restriction.

Last year, a “visitor traffic light” was introduced on the Internet so that everyone could see before a visit whether it was worth the trip.

In KAISERSLAUTERN, both pools are currently being prepared for the start of the bathing season.

"The regular opening date would be May 15," said city spokeswoman Anika Sedlmeier.

But when a release can be expected depends on the situation.

"The further development therefore remains to be seen."

Stefan Nerbas takes a different approach in MEISENHEIM.

He rents the indoor pool to private individuals for an hour at a time.

"It hit like a bomb, I can't make every wish come true," he says.

The model is also possible because the bathroom is private and not public.

You don't really earn anything with it, says Nerbas.

«The main thing is that the bathroom is in operation and does not suffer any damage.

I hope that the idea will find followers. "

Marco Vogt from the DLRG regional association Rhineland-Palatinate does not want to completely rule out that people in search of cooling off go to lakes and rivers when pools are closed.

"That depends entirely on the weather."

One problem is rather that swimming lessons for children cannot be offered without baths.

“Added to this is the generally poor location of the bathrooms.

It is unclear whether the backwater can still be absorbed, ”says Vogt.
